The FRONTlines discussion series aims to create dialogue and debate on current issues related to architecture, design, and the urban environment facing Winnipeg and the Province. The FRONTlines Discussions are intended to cultivate expertise and opinions to the issue at hand, provided by and moderated by a panel of related professionals for public access and information.
September 25, 2012 @ WFP News Cafe , 7 – 9p.m.
Winnipeg is at a turning point in its redevelopment. Major projects are being planned or constructed throughout the city, many under our last decade’s administrator’s guidelines for a much slower emerging metropolis. In the past, the design community has responded en masse to re-imagine the city, whether the focus was our waterfront in the exchange, or our mythic crossroads, Portage and Main.
The 2nd event of the FRONTlines series is going to feature three projects from the past that re-imagine the city on a civic scale. After introductory short presentations, designers and architects will discuss the issues pertinent to the projects in a moderated forum. Following the first event, StorefrontMB and FrontLines will call upon our community once again to bring our vision and creativity to all Winnipeggers to help them imagine a more vibrant, livable and beautiful city.
Projects to be discussed are the imagined Portage and Main tower [DPA + collaborators], the Living Cities Competition [Lawrence Bird + Jean Trottier + 5468796 architecture], and the unrealized St. James Bridge Condominiums [Alec Katz Architect].
